For P.C. Jones
Why are all our heroes dead ?
Is it because the living
Do not loom over us, larger than life,
But their faults do?
We remember the courage of the dead
Honour their wisdom
Take the truth of their lives to heart
And love them always
Because they practiced what they preached
And died for the struggle.
Still, who knows the courage it takes
To get up every morning and breathe
Not the grand passions of the hero
But the silly human moments of life?
And I respect
Who choose to live for the struggle
